Women's Tennis defeats Florida A&M, 6-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's tennis team won 5-of-6 singles matches and captured the doubles point to earn its fifth win of the season defeating Florida A&M, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex.

JU (5-0) freshman Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) won at No. 1 singles in two sets defeating Charlana Brown, 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore Veronika Subertova (Bratislava, Slovakia) who took the No. 2 singles match defeated Ahsa JaJa, 6-0, 6-0. Also taking singles matches were junior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablance, Morocco) over Zama Mkhize at No. 4 (5-7, 6-3, 10-8) and senior Kristina Puck (Hamburg, Germany) over Charlene Kambarami at No. 5 (7-6, default). Florida A&M (7-5) took its lone point in the No. 3 singles match where Anita Abad defeated Martina Strussova (Bratislava, Slovakia), 6-1, 6-2.

Subertova and Sulyos combined to defeat Kambarami and Abad at No. 1 doubles, 7-3, while Puck and Hajbane took No. 2 doubles defeating JaJa and Mkhize, 8-5.

JU will play Gardner-Webb on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex.
