Emese Sulyos Named A-Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office Wednesday, after posting a flawless 22-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 16-2 mark in doubles play, propelling the Dolphins to a school-record 15-3 overall mark and a No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Sun Championship. Sulyos, who was also named A-Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, was the only freshman to earn first-team all-conference honors.
Sophomore Veronika Subertova (Bratislava, Slovakia) was also named A-Sun First-Team All-Conference, joining her doubles partner, Sulyos, after posting a 14-3 record at No. 2 singles and going 12-1 with Sulyos at No. 1 doubles.
Sulyos is currently ranked No. 79 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), one of only 14 freshmen in the top-80 in the country.
The women's tennis team earned the top seed in the Atlantic Sun Championship, advancing to the semifinals before being upset by eventual champions, Troy State. JU was ranked as high as No. 75 by the ITA this season.
