Women's Tennis Drops to No. 61 Auburn, 5-2

AUBURN, Ala. - The Jacksonville University women's tennis team lost its first road match of the season, 5-2, to the 61st-ranked Auburn Tigers Sunday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Complex. The Dolphins drop to 1-1 on the season, while Auburn improves to 1-0.
JU fell behind early when the lost the double point to the Tigers. Auburn's Petra Bercik and Isabel Rosenbrock downed Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) and Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland), 8-2, in No. 1 doubles, while the Dolphins' Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) and Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C.) lost 8-0 to Ashley Cowart and Tori Almango at the third doubles position. Jelena Jovic and Sarah Suitor finished off the doubles sweep at No. 2, defeating Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) and Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany), 9-7.
Auburn clinched the match before the Dolphins could score their first point, as Bercik beat Bourot, 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. Hajbane lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Cowart at No. 4, while Nancy Peaden dropped Williams at the No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Sulyos bested Jovic, 6-4, 6-2 at the first spot, while Willi topped Rosenbrock in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Antonioli lost at the fifth spot to Almagno, 7-5, 6-2, to close out the match.
The Dolphins next face Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 10 at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex.
