JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany) led four Dolphins that won singles matches to propel the JU women's tennis team to a 4-3 win over Utah Tuesday afternoon at the Alexander Brest Tennis Courts. The Dolphins improve to 6-8 on the year, while the Utes fall to 8-7.
JU lost the doubles point, with Courts No. 1 and 2 completing play. The Utes' Elizabeth Farris and Allison Hansen took a 8-6 win over JU's top pairing of senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) and Willi. Dolphin freshmen Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland) and Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) dropped a 8-1 decision to Whitney Eber and Emily Kwok at No. 2. The third doubles match was suspended due to time constraints.
The Dolphins fell behind 2-0 as Cinthia Saucedo downed junior Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C), 6-0, 6-2, before JU turned the tide. Willi took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Eber, while Hajbane dispatched Cheyenne Reveche, 6-0, 6-4, at the fourth spot. JU sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) won a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Ferris at the first position, with Antonioli clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Hansen. Bourot lost the final match of the day in a super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 10-3, to Kwok at No. 3. It was the first match the Dolphins have won this season without winning the doubles point.
