Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) and freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany) both continued winning streaks in singles play, but the Dolphins fell in the four other singles matches to fall to Atlantic Sun rival Stetson, 4-3, at the Alexander Brest Tennis Courts. JU falls to 6-9 on the year, 1-4 in the A-Sun, while the Hatters move to 10-5, 3-0 in conference action.
JU took the doubles point with wins at the top two spots. JU's top team of senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) and Willi won the deciding match, 9-8, over Stetson's Maja Miladinovic and Mili Milovanovic, while JU picked up the other win at No. 2 where freshmen Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland) and Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) downed Catherine Canady and Marina Levin, 8-5. The Hatters' Jackie Bohannon and Anna Leonenko took an 8-4 win over Sulyos and junior Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C.) at the third position.
The Hatters took a 3-1 lead with wins at No. 3, 4 and 6. Milovanovic won a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 3 over Hajbane, while Williams fell at the sixth spot, 6-0, 6-2, to Leonenka. Bourot lost a 6-4, 6-0 match to Levin at the fourth spot before JU bounced back with wins on courts No. 1 and 2. Sulyos continued a 10-match winning streak with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Bohannon at the first position, with Willi continuing a eight-match winning streak at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Miladinovic. Antonioli took the first set, 6-3, from Canady before dropping the final two sets, 6-0, 6-2, at the fifth spot to give Stetson the win.
JU wraps up a nine-match homestand Wednesday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader with the Dolphin men's team against Wright State at the Alexander Brest Tennis Courts.
