Women's Tennis Downs Bethune-Cookman, 5-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The JU women's tennis team won three straight singles sets to give the Dolphins a 5-2 win over Bethune-Cookman Wednesday afternoon at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Dolphins improved their record to 8-9 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 13-5.
JU trailed in singles play, 2-1, when freshman Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) earned a three-set victory, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, over Valerie Kendrick at the No. 3 singles position. Freshman Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland) followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot against Shaunda Gaiter, while Junior Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C.) won at the No. 6 seed, 6-0, 6-0, helping give the Dolphins the team victory. Freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany) also picked up a victory at the No. 2 spot over Bethune-Cookman's Lucia Polakova, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) fell at the No. 1 singles position to Olra Ruislova, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) lost in three-sets to Martina Strussova at the No. 3 singles position, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
The Dolphins took two doubles sets in the match. Bourot and Antonioli won in the No. 2 doubles position, 8-6, over Polakova and Kendrick. The tandem of Williams and Sulyos picked up a victory at the No. 3 doubles spot over Gaiter and Bhola, 8-0. Hajbane and Willi were the only JU pairing to lose on the day as they fell, 8-4, in the top doubles position.
The Dolphins next face North Florida at the Alexander Breast Tennis Complex on April 6 at 1:00 p.m.
