Women's Tennis Gets 4-3 Victory over North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) took a three-set win in No. 3 singles to give the JU women's tennis team a 4-3 victory over cross-town rival North Florida Wednesday afternoon at the Alexander Brest Tennis Courts. The Dolphins even up their record at 9-9, while the Ospreys, who are ranked ninth in the Division II rankings, fall to 15-4.
JU took the doubles point for the fourth straight match with wins at the second and third positions. Freshmen Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland) and Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) took a 8-6 decision over the Ospreys' Yevgeniya Barysheva and Melanie Eng at No. 2, while sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) and junior Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C.) downed Vannesa Sanchez and Katja Brandt, 8-6, on Court No. 3. North Florida took the match at No. 1, as Julie Stoppelli and Liliana Hung defeated Hajbane and freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany), 8-3.
JU jumped out to a 3-0 lead, getting wins at No. 1 from Sulyos, who defeated Barysheva, 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 2 from Willi, who downed Hung, 6-2, 6-3. The Ospreys took the next three matches at the final three spots. Bourot dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Sanchez at the fourth spot, while North Florida's Eng got a 6-4, 6-2 win over Antonioli. Robin Rogers took the Ospreys' final win, downing Williams on No. 6, 7-5, 6-2. Hajbane pulled out the win in three sets at No. 4 over Brandt, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
JU ends the regular season tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Savannah State on the Alexander Brest Tennis Courts.
