April 13, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after her performance against North Florida, the conference office announced today. Willi becomes the third Dolphin player to win the award while marking the fourth time JU has won the award this year. Sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) won the honor twice, on Feb. 15 and March 8, while senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) took home the award on March 15.

Willi led the Dolphins to a 4-3 win over cross-town and future A-Sun rival North Florida, winning the No. 2 singles match over Liliana Hung, 6-2, 6-3. She is on a team-best 11-match winning streak, including a win at the top spot against Wright State. Willi has also combined with Hajbane in doubles for JU, going 13-8 during the year.

The fifth-seeded Dolphins take on fourth-seeded Florida Atlantic on Friday, April 15, in the quarterfinals of the A-Sun Tennis Championships at Stetson University.
