Women's Tennis Sees Season End in A-Sun Quarterfinals to Florida Atlantic, 4-3

DELAND, Fla. - Freshman Lena Willi (Freiburg, Germany) won her 12th straight match, but the Dolphins lost two singles matches in the third set to fall to Florida Atlantic, 4-3, in the Atlantic Sun Championship quarterfinals at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The Dolphins took the doubles point, getting wins at No. 1 and No. 3. JU's top tandem of senior Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) and Willi downed the Owls' Alana Dvorakova and Elodie Wendling, 9-8 at the top spot, while sophomore Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) and junior Megan Williams (New Westminster, B.C.) won a 8-3 decision at No. 3 over Claudia Ketch and Pia Terol. Florida Atlantic took their only doubles win at No. 2, where Katherine Bartnik and Veronica Koksova dropped the Dolphins' freshmen tandem of Daphne Bourot (Lyon, France) and Dana Antonioli (Bienne, Switzerland), 8-3, at No. 2 spot.
The Owls took the lead, 2-1, as Terol downed Williams in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Wendling dropped Bourot, 6-4, 6-2, at the fourth spot. JU moved back ahead 3-2 with Willi's 6-3, 6-1 win over Koksova at No. 2 and Sulyos' 7-6, 6-4 victory over Dvorakova at the top position. Ketch evened up the match at 3-3 with her 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win over Antonioli before Bartnik won the tiebreaker over Hajbane at No. 3, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.
JU ends the year with a 10-10 record.
