Feb. 13, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Emese Sulyos became the first female tennis athlete to win five Atlantic Sun Conference "Athlete of the Week" awards after winning at the No. 1 spot in singles and doubles leading the JU to their second win over UCF in the last 25 years on Feb. 10th.
"Emese is one of the best competitors that I have ever seen, in any sport, male or female," said tennis head coach Jarod Camerota. "In a big, pressure match, I don't know many players, if any, in the country that I would want instead of her."
Sulyos defeated the Golden Knights' Elvira Serrot 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 seed in singles. She teamed with Lena Willi to knock off Serrot and her teammate Anna Yakimchenkova in doubles 8-3.
Despite falling in singles to #54 Courtney Vernon of USF on Feb. 11, Sulyos has only lost six times in dual matches over the last three seasons.
Sulyos, currently 5-1 in dual matches this year, will look to lead the Dolphins to victory at home against conference foe Stetson on Friday at 1 p.m.
