Men's and Women's Tennis prepare for A-Sun Tournament on Friday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Jacksonville University men's and women's tennis team will enter the 2007 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Tennis Championships on Friday.

The women's squad enters the weekend with a 13-match winning streak and an 8-1 conference record, earning its first No. 1 seed since the 2004 season. The Dolphins will face No. 8 seed Lipscomb at 11:30 a.m., on the campus of Milligan College. The Dolphins defeated the Lady Bisons, 5-2, in the last match of the season on April 1.

JU is led by senior Emese Sulyos, junior Lena Willi and freshman Tatiana Soldatova at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. The trio has a combined 52-14 record on the season and has gone 25-2 in the A-Sun.

With a win against Lipscomb, the Dolphins would face the winner between No. 4 seed Campbell and No. 5 seed Belmont in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The JU men's team earned a No. 5 seed in this year's tournament and ended the season with a four-match winning steak. The Dolphins will look to avenge a loss against No. 4 seed Gardner-Webb tomorrow at 3 p.m., in the Memorial Center. The Dolphins were defeated 4-3 by the Bulldogs on March 20.

The men's tennis team is led by sophomore Jordi Ballester and freshman Ernesto Ramos. The two have a combined 30-7 record on the season and went 11-5 in conference play.

In the loss to Gardner-Webb, the Dolphins picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. At No. 1 singles Ballester defeated Evgeny Selesarev 6-2, 6-3 and at the No. 2 singles position, Francisco Riveroll picked up a victory against Roberto Vasques 6-1, 6-2. Victor Vaz picked up the final Dolphin point at the No. 3 position with a win over Kim Ellis 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

With a win, the Dolphins will face the winner between No. 1 seed ETSU and No. 8 seed Lipscomb on Saturday at 3 p.m.
