JU Volleyball Falls Short at Outback Steakhouse Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. - ATHENS, Ga.- JU junior middle hitter Brooke Ahrens (Benson, Ill.) was named to the All-tournament team after tallying 41 kills, 23 digs and eight blocks, but it was not enough as the Dolphins fell to UAB, Eastern Kentucky, and Georgia at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational in Athens, Ga. Carrie Bosworth (Centreville, Mass.) added 104 assists, 27 kills and 22 digs on the weekend as the short-handed Dolphins battled in two five-set matches.

The Dolphins dropped the first match to UAB (25-30, 30-26, 33-35, 30-25, 7-15) as Ahrens led the way for JU recording 16 kills, nine digs and four blocks. Bosworth added 14 kills, eight digs and 36 assists, while hitting a team-best .423 as the Dolphins took the Blazers to five sets.

Ahrens again led JU against Eastern Kentucky with 19 kills and seven digs as the Dolphins fell in five games (30-28,30-27,16-30,20-30,11-15) to the Colonels. Bosworth added nine kills, 13 digs and 46 assists, while Alesha Rodriguez (Cleveland, Ohio) had 13 kills and 14 digs.

In third and final match, Georgia's Stacy Buerger led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory (18-30,22-30,16-30) with 20 kills and five service aces. Rodriguez led JU with 11 kills. The Dolphins return to action on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. as they take on Auburn at the War Eagle Invitational.
