Volleyball Signs Two Florida High School Standouts

Feb. 18, 2002

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In efforts to bounce back from last year's 8-17 season, the JU Volleyball coaching staff announced the signing of Florida high school standouts Erin Donovan, a setter from Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, Fla., and Lindsay Ward, an outside hitter from Fernandina Beach High School in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Donovan had a stellar career at Cardinal Mooney High, leading her team to a 19-9 record, including a district championship as a senior. She led the team with 792 assists, 52 blocks, 241 service points and 33 service aces en route to first-team all-area and second-team all-state honors. She earned first-team all-state recognition her sophomore and junior years.

"Erin has great footwork and energy, said JU head coach Robin Mignerey. "She flies around the court and is a setter that can put balls to target consistently. We look for her to come in and contribute early,"

Ward, an outside hitter, will enter the Dolphin volleyball program on the heels of a solid senior campaign. As a senior at FBHS, she led her team with 213 kills, 149 service points and 48 digs. She also received 2001 team MVP, First-Team All-First Coast and second-team all-state recognition last year. Off the court, Ward was an honor student and Vice-president of the National Honor Society at Fernandina Beach High School.

"Lindsay will provide our team with enthusiasm and depth and she has great work ethic, said Mignerey. "We look to use Lindsay as a role player early on and hopefully down the road she will develop into a powerful outside threat."
