Women's golf in seventh at Lady Falcon Invitational
Sept. 22, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's golf team opened its 2007 season with a round of 318 at the Lady Falcon Invitational on the par-72 LPGA International Golf Course.
Heather Fudge had the low round of the day for JU, carding a four-over par 76 to sit in a tie for 11th.
"We definitely left some shots out there," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "We had a great performance from Heather Fudge and I'm very impressed with freshman Jessica Williams stepping up in her first collegiate round.
"Therese (Karlsson) wasn't hitting the ball as well as she would like, but she was able to get it around and post a score to help us."
Barry University slogged through the wet conditions to shoot a 299 and lead the 13-team event. Barry's Johanna Soderstrom leads the individual competition after carding the only under-par round of the day, a one-under par 71.
Freshman Jessica Williams opened her JU career with an impressive 79, opening with a two-over par front nine, to sit in a tie for 25th seven-over par.
Therese Karlsson posted an eight-over par 80 to finish in a tie for 29th. She was able to battle through the sloppy conditions on the back nine to get into the house after a five-over par back side.
Jessica Green ended the day in a tie for 48th after shooting an 83 while Alexandra Anderson is tied 52nd after shooting an 84.
The Dolphins wrap up their season opening event on Sunday at 8 a.m.
