Feb. 21, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's golf team will host the inaugural JU Invitational at Windsor Parke, starting with 18 holes on Monday.
The Dolphins will tee it up in the 36-hole event with Atlantic Sun Conference rivals Belmont and Stetson, as well as Austin Peay and Daytona Beach Community College.
JU will go off in the final wave with Stetson and Daytona Beach CC, current NJCAA National Champions, as the first Dolphin going to the first tee at 8:12 a.m.
"We're excited to be hosting an event this year with some quality teams coming in for the week," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "I know the team is ready to play at home and it is going to be exciting for them to play in front of their family and friends here in town."
Jacksonville is coming off of a sixth place finish in its spring opener at the Braveheart Invitational in California. Freshman Danielle Gibb claimed the first top 20 finish of her young college career, tying for 13th.
"Danielle has been playing well and has adjusted to playing here in the U.S.," Taketa said. "She stepped up her game in some tough conditions in California that really helped us."
Another Dolphin looking to build off of a solid finish at the Braveheart is Heather Fudge. The senior from Canada tied for 21st in California, posting a seven-over par 79 in the final round.
"With her experience, Heather has played at a high level all year and we need that as everyone looks to her as our leader," Taketa said. "She is going to be ready to play her best this week."
