JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) became the third JU volleyball player to reach 1,000 career kills as the Dolphins fell to Baylor, 3-0 (21-30, 17-30, 14-30), in the sixth and final match of the Hampton Inn/JU Classic Saturday night at Swisher Gymnasium. Dimitrova reached the mark in the third game of the match on her fourth kill and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Lindsay Ward (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) had seven kills for JU, which falls to 1-6 on the season. Baylor hit .451 for the match as they clinched the tournament title by virtue of a tiebreaker.
Nicole LeBlanc led the Baylor (6-5) with 12 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, while Desiree Guilliard-Young hit .714 and had 11 kills. Stella Odion added nine kills and hit .818 for the match, while Emily Huston dished out 46 assists.
In the fifth match of the tournament, Florida International (6-2) rallied to defeat Wyoming, 3-2 (30-26, 25-30, 29-31, 30-21, 15-11). Adriana Fundora led FIU with 16 kills and 30 digs, while Jennifer Owens had 20 kills and eight digs. Sara Maytorena had a triple-double for Wyoming (7-3) with 18 kills, 22 digs, and 11 assists.
The Dolphins return to action when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida State Classic next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20. JU will take on host Florida State at 12:00 p.m. before facing Eastern Kentucky at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Dolphins will play Miami at 10:00 a.m.
