JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and freshman middle blocker Petya Borisova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led a balanced JU attack to victory, as the Dolphins (2-10) came out ahead, 3-0 (30-15, 30-26, 30-24) against the visiting Stetson Hatters (1-10) in Swisher Gymnasium, Friday. Four Dolphins tallied six kills or better, led by Dimitrova's 14 and Borisova's 11. Dimitrova proved to be the difference again, hitting .448 for the match and delivering timely points throughout the evening.
JU took the first game handily, but the Hatters regained their composure, making the second game a battle. Inspired performances from Lindsey Combes and DeeAnn Dempsey slowed the Dolphins' momentum, making the third game a test of wills. Stetson took an early lead until JU came to life, clawing its way back into the game and earning the hard-fought victory.
Borisova and sophomore setter Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) shattered career-bests against Stetson. Donivan recorded 40 assists, 25 better than her previous high, while Borisova's 11 kills set a new career mark.
The Dolphins' next test will be Savannah State, at home on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
