Volleyball Takes Savannah State 3-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman outside hitter Eva Stoilova and sophomore middle blocker Danielle Neville paced the JU attack, Tuesday night, as Stoilova tallied a career-high 15 kills and six aces, while Neville added 10 kills, in a 3-0 (30-20, 30-15, 30-23) win over Savannah State (2-19), in Swisher Gymnasium.

Freshman middle blocker Petya Borisova, contributed to the JU attack with nine kills, while sophomores Erin Donivan and Lindsay Ward each finished the match with seven kills. Donivan, who just last week tallied a career-best 40 assists against Stetson, bettered that mark against the Tigers, notching 45 assists on the evening. Junior outside hitter Kelly Ryals led all players with 15 digs.

JU (3-10) earned a sluggish win in the first game, relying on Soilova's accurate attacks and excellent defensive play by freshman middle blocker Petya Borisova, recording six digs in the opening frame. Stoilova hit .667 in the first game, tallying six kills on nine attempts.

The Dolphins swept through the second game, but sophomore outside hitter Lynn Tyldesley, leading Savannah State with nine kills in the match, recorded five in the final game alone, challenging JU to close out the match. Stoilova responded in kind, nailing four aces in the third game and adding five more kills to her total as Ryals recorded seven of her 15 digs to earn the Dolphins the win.

JU embarks on a three-match road trip, beginning Friday, Oct. 3 against Campbell at 7:00 p.m., followed by a showdown with Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2:00 p.m. and concluding with a match against the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 4:00 p.m.
