JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman outside hitter Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the Dolphins with 13 kills and 13 digs, but it was not enough as JU fell to A-Sun leader UCF, 3-0 (20-30, 19-30, 26-30), Friday night at Swisher Gymnasium. The Golden Knights clinched at least a share of the A-Sun regular-season title as it improves to 19-6, 9-0 in the conference. JU falls to 14-12, 7-2 in the A-Sun.
UCF had a 13-12 lead in the first game, before winning the next seven points en route to a 30-20 win. The Golden Knights opened up a 24-9 lead in the second game, before JU cut the lead to 25-17. The Dolphins were unable to catch up, however, as UCF hit .357 in the second game. The third game was tied at 23-23, before UCF won six of the next eight points on its way to the victory.
Freshman middle blocker Shannon Welch (Brentwood, Tenn.) had five kills and hit .400 for JU, while freshman setter Erin Hickman (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore setter Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) had 13 and 11 assists, respectively.
Amanda Stoutjesdyk led UCF with 12 kills and four block assists, while Tanya Jarvis and Emily Watts each added 11 kills. Jenny Frank had eight kills and hit .727 to go along with 36 assists.
The Dolphins return to action when they host Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. JU can clinch the third seed in the A-Sun Tournament with a win over the Owls.
