Volleyball Edges Florida Atlantic, 3-2, In A-Sun Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman outside hitter Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led JU with 18 kills and 11 digs, while freshman middle blocker Shannon Welch (Brentwood, Tenn.) added 15 kills and hit .520 as the Dolphins edged Florida Atlantic, 3-2 (30-27, 30-27, 25-30, 28-30, 15-10), Saturday afternoon in A-Sun volleyball action at Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins improve to 15-12, 8-2 in the A-Sun as they clinched the third seed in the A-Sun Tournament, which will be held in Orlando, Nov. 21-22. FAU, which overcame a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth game, falls to 12-14, 6-4 in the A-Sun.

Freshman middle blocker Petya Borisova (Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded 16 kills and 11 digs, while junior outside hitter Candice Rose (Mechanicsville, Md.) tallied 11 kills and hit .320 for the match. The Dolphins hit .280 as a team and had 10 total blocks.

JU came out firing in the first game, hitting .400 in the 30-27 victory. The Dolphins edged FAU again in the second game, before the Owls hit .370 and .400 in games three and four, respectively, to tie the match at 2-2. JU took an 11-5 lead in game five en route to the victory.

Abby Miner led FAU with 25 kills, while Cayse Kaveny had 17 kills and Iana Andonova added 16. Setter Krista Klawitter recorded 62 assists and 18 digs.

The Dolphins return to action when they host Georgia Southern in their regular-season finale on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
