Kevin Paul Promoted to Head Volleyball Coach

April 6, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Kevin Paul, who has served as an assistant volleyball coach at JU for the past three seasons, has been promoted to head volleyball coach, Athletic Director Dr. John Balog announced today. Paul replaces Courtney Dipert who has accepted a position at Eckerd College as senior women's administrator and head volleyball coach. JU earned its third-straight postseason berth in 2003 after posting a 15-14 record, including a third place finish in the Atlantic Sun with an 8-2 league mark.

"Kevin's hard work and dedication to the volleyball program has been instrumental in its recent successes," said Balog, who is also JU's Vice President of Student Life. "He is ready to assume the head coaching duties and is a natural fit to lead JU's continued growth as of the A-Sun's top programs."

Paul has been instrumental in the Dolphins' recent successes, recruiting a pair of Atlantic Sun All-Freshman honorees in Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Danielle Neville (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and helping develop two-time Atlantic Sun All-Conference award winner Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) into one of the top players in the league. Dimitrova graduates with JU's second-highest kills total (1,218) after earning First-Team A-Sun All-Conference honors the last two seasons, while Neville has finished in the top three in blocks in both of her seasons with the Dolphins.

"I am looking forward to building on the successes of the last three seasons," said Paul. "We return the core of last year's team and have high expectations for the future." Paul joined the Dolphin staff after six seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky, where he handled opponent scouting and assisted with the on-court training and conditioning of the team. Between 1994 and 2000, Paul helped coach seven players to All-Ohio Valley Conference honors.

Paul was recently named Co-Director of the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association after one season as the organization's coaching director. In 2003, Paul led the 17 Elite team to the finals of four USAV tournaments, including a pair of championships in 2003 and a No. 1 ranking in Florida.
