JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville volleyball team began its 2005 season on Tuesday with its first practice in hopes of repeating as Atlantic Sun Conference champions.
The Dolphins finished last season on an amazing hot streak, winning 15 of their final 21 matches to claim the school's first A-Sun tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"It's exciting to get back on the floor and start practice for this season," said head coach Kevin Paul, entering his second season at the helm of the program. "We set a great foundation from the end of last year and we are looking forward to building on that as we begin preseason."
With all six starters returning, Paul has the foundation set to build off of last year's success.
Junior Eva Stoilova was a first-team all-conference honoree last year after leading the team in kills (296). Joining her on the front-line is senior middle blocker Lindsay Ward, the MVP of the A-Sun tournament. Ward racked up 46 kills in the three matches at the tournament in leading the Dolphins to the title.
"With all of our starters returning, the experience level will allow us to have higher expectations and more leaders on the court for our younger players," said Paul.
The Dolphins open their season on Friday, Aug. 26, against Campbell in the Georgia Southern Tournament.
