Nov. 11, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - Senior setter Erin Donivan was named second-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Donivan becomes the first Dolphin volleyball player to earn the honor.

"When it comes to the classroom, Erin has been the biggest leader this team has," said JU head coach Kevin Paul. "She has certainly set the academic example for all of our current and incoming volleyball athletes. This is truly why you are in college and I'm thrilled about Erin getting this recognition."

In the classroom, Donivan carried a 3.76 GPA, while majoring in biology and having a minor in secondary education. She also serves as President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. As president, she has organized four successful faculty appreciation nights at the fall sports events and spear headed the effort to raise money for U.S. troops who are overseas.

"She is involved in many organizations on campus and along with her academic success, I am sure she will be very successful when she graduates," Paul said. "She has made all of us here at JU proud."

On the court, she leads the team and ranks fourth in the Atlantic Sun with 1,111 assists (11.34 apg). She currently sits fifth on the school's all-time assists lists with 2,641. Donivan, who has played in every game this season at setter, was instrumental in leading the Dolphins to a school record 16 consecutive conference wins. Last season, she led the Dolphins to their first-ever A-Sun title and first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Donivan also has earned three straight A-Sun academic all-conference honors.

The Dolphins (14-13, 8-1 A-Sun) wrap up the regular season against Stetson on Friday in Swisher Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. The contest will mark the final home match for seniors Donivan, Lindsay Ward, Danielle Neville and Joanna Silva.
