Volleyball set to host 2006 Crispers Invitational

Aug. 31, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - With one tournament under their belt, the JU volleyball team comes home to host the 2006 Crispers Invitational, starting Friday afternoon.

The Dolphins took third place at the Louisville Invitational last weekend and are looking to improve on that finish this weekend. JU's first match in the tournament is against Southeast Louisiana at 7:30 p.m.

"We are spending the preseason competing against ourselves, not other teams," said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. "The goal is to improve and achieve our standards in each match we play. Last weekend we were unable to reach those goals, but we are looking forward to another opportunity this weekend."

Leading the Dolphins last weekend was the duo of Stevenique Richardson and Sara Bendorf. Richardson earned all-tournament team honors at the Louisville Invitational and led the team in hitting percentage at .367.

Bendorf, playing in his first matches at JU after transferring from Northwest University, recorded a team-leading 28 kills over the weekend and is averaging 2.8 kills per game.

After the match on Friday, JU resumes tournament play on Saturday against Southern Conference power Georgia Southern at 11 a.m. The Dolphins then end the tournament against Lafayette at 6 p.m. Admission is free to all matches.
