Sara Bendorf named Player of the Week
Sept. 25, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sara Bendorf racked up 50 kills in three matches this past week and was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" after leading the JU volleyball team to a three-match winning streak.
Bendorf, a sophomore who transferred from Northwest University, led the JU offense in all three matches, including a season-high 24 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday.
"Sara had a great week for us that showed our progress as a team," said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. "When we get our middles running well that really opens up our outsides to more single blocks. Each game last week had a different star, but overall we're just excited for everyone to be on the same page entering conference season."
Bendorf had 14 kills and two blocks in a sweep of Savannah State, picked up 12 kills, five digs and two blocks against Charleston Southern in a 3-0 victory and wrapped up the week with 24 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Coastal Carolina.
Bendorf has five double-doubles on the season and ranks seventh in the league in kills.
The Dolphins are back at home for the first time in more than a month on Friday against future Atlantic Sun Conference rival Florida Gulf Coast. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
