June 7, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU volleyball team announced the addition of libero Alexa Napoleon of Naples, Fla., head coach Shaun Kupferberg announced Thursday.

Napoleon, a 5-foot-8 senior at Barron Collier High School, was a two-year letterwinner and earned first team all-conference accolades as a senior after leading the squad to the regional finals. She earned the coaches award as a senior, junior and sophomore after being named team top defensive player as a freshman. At the club level, Napoleon is a member of USA South.

"Alexa is a great player and teammate," said Kupferberg. "She has the ability to play at the net, but her defensive skills will be her primary contribution here at Jacksonville. Her anticipation and passing platform are both strengths that will allow her to adapt quickly to the college game."

Napoleon will join 5-foot-10 outside hitter Kesley Clark of Miami Dade College (Houston, Texas), 6-foot-2 middle hitter Abby Gruenbacher of Bishop Carroll High School (Wichita, Kan.), 6-foot-1 middle hitter Nicki Kent of Wyoming (Vancouver, Wash.), 6-foot outside hitter Brittany Lehman of Grapevine High School (Colleyville, Texas), 5-foot-10 setter Hannah Munneke of Santa Ynez Valley Union High School (Santa Ynez, Calif.) and 6-foot-3 middle hitter Aidan Yeager of Evans High School (Martinez, Ga.).

In Kupferberg's first season at JU, the Dolphins finished with a 17-15 record and qualified for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for the eighth consecutive season, where they reached the tournament finals for the second time in program history.
