Rowing prepares for the Head of the South

The JU rowing teams will compete in its final event of the 2008 fall season as the Dolphins make their way to the Savannah River for The Head of the South on Saturday at the Augusta Rowing Club.

JU, which has tallied 10 medals in two fall races, will have 18 boats competing (11 men, seven women) as the squads make their final preparations going into the spring.

The Women’s Freshman 8 with coxswain Leigh Taylor, Jenna Mathis, Lynn Samatulski, Allison Justice, Lauren Leone, Lydia Erdelt, Marina Arishina, Emma Fowler and Sarah Willats will kick things off at 9:15 a.m. against Clemson, College of Charleston, Emory, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Georgia “A”, Georgia “B”, UNC-Wilmington, Richmond, Virginia Tech “A” and Virginia Tech “B.”

The Men’s Lightweight 4 consisting of coxswain Rich O’Neill, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety and Chris Barse will go at 9:45 a.m. against Georgia Tech, Georgia, UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Tech.

A trio of Men’s Pair boats will compete for the Dolphins as Tyler Humphrey and Richmond Jones (“A”), Erich Negaard and Sebastian Kuhn (“B”) and Dylan Kosten and Bradley Woodrum (“C”) go against five boats from Georgia Tech, Alabama and Duke.

The Men’s Championship Pair with Wayne Reichard and Parker Lawler follow at 10:50 a.m. against Alabama, Clemson, Rhodes College, Tennessee and Tampa.

The Men’s Freshman 4 with coxswain Andrew Soloway, Andy Davis, Isaiah LaCount, Isaac LaCount and Chris Ottie will compete at 11 a.m. against Berry College “A”, Berry College “B”, Emory and N.C. State.

The Men’s Novice 4 with coxswain Kay Mullett, Steve Smith, Ben Keister, Luke Bauman and Brandon Makrides will also go at 11 a.m. against Alabama, Clemson “A”, Clemson “B”, Clemson “C”, College of Charleston “A”, College of Charleston “B”, Duke, Emory, Georgia Tech “A”, Georgia Tech “B”, N.C. State, Rhodes College, Tennessee, Georgia “A”, Georgia “B”, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

The Women’s Championship 4 “A” with coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Stephanie Bechtold, Adelina Anderson, Jenna Barker and Danielle Fournier and the Women’s Championship 4 “B” with coxswain R. Maria Sotelo, Kelly Burke, Caitlin Halloran, Candace Barber and Elise Perna will go at 11:45 a.m. against Emory and Tennessee.

The Men’s Lightweight 8 with coxswain Anthony Magro, Rich O’Neill, Stefan Negaard, Joey Civello, Kevin Friedlander, Wayne Reichard, Parker Lawler, John Gerety and Chris Barse will compete at 1:30 p.m. against Clemson, Georgia Tech and Georgia.

The Men’s Club 8 with coxswain Tom Richards, Andy Davis, Chris Ottie, Isaac LaCount, Isaiah LaCount, Tucker Smoot, Mike Vasaya, Dan Hutchinson and Jordan Bewley will also compete at 1:30 p.m. against Clemson “A”, Clemson “B”, College of Charleston, Duke, Emory, N.C. State, Georgia and Wake Forest.
