Men’s soccer hosts former A-Sun rival Gardner-Webb on Friday
The JU men’s soccer team will make a short two-match stop at the friendly confines of the Ashley Sports Complex starting Friday against Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m.

The Dolphins (0-2), who play only six home matches in 2008, finishes the weekend on Sunday against Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m.

“Our main objective is to get back on the right track,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “Obviously, we are disappointed with how last weekend turned out. We plan to come out and get the ship going back in the correct direction.”

JU comes back home after falling to UNLV and Western Illinois to open the season in the UNLV Rebel Classic. The Rebels scored early and late in the match, despite being outshot in the second half (9-to-3), to give Dolphins a 2-0 loss on Aug. 30. The Leathernecks scored two first half goals en route to a 3-1 victory to send JU home winless for the classic.

The Dolphins are no strangers to facing the Bulldogs (0-2) and the Owls (0-2) since all three teams were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference at one time. Gardner-Webb left the A-Sun this season to join the Big South Conference, while Florida Atlantic men’s soccer team has been part of the Atlantic Soccer Conference since 2006.

JU held a 5-1 record in A-Sun play over Gardner-Webb, including a 2-1 win last season. The Owls won the last four meetings in A-Sun action against the Dolphins for a 6-4-1 mark in 11 meetings from 1997-2002.
