Men’s soccer rallies to down Lipscomb in home finale, 3-1
In his final home match in a Dolphin uniform, Senior forward Ramak Niakan Safi scored two second half goals to help the JU men’s soccer team rally past Lipscomb, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Sun action at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The Dolphins (10-8, 7-2) exploded for three goals in less than 13 minutes during the second half to secure the No. 2 seed and a first round bye at the A-Sun Tournament beginning Nov. 12. The Dolphins also posted double-digit wins for second consecutive year and tie a school record in conference wins with seven.

With the loss, the Bisons (9-8-2, 5-3-1) lock up the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament.

“It was a nice way to bounce back after the loss on Friday night,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “We played a sluggish first half, but shook it off and executed like we needed to in the second half. I was happy we could send our seniors off with a win in their final home match.

“It was also nice to secure the No. 2 seed for the tournament because having that first round bye is important to any team. I hope we can carry this momentum with us over to the A-Sun Tournament in two weeks.”

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Niakan Safi tied the match for the Dolphins when he scored off a deflection after shot by senior defender Philipp Meyner with less than 25 minutes remaining.

The Dolphins took a 2-1 lead less than five minutes later after Niakan Safi scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a header from a cross by sophomore forward Tony Taylor.

With less than 13-minutes remaining, junior midfielder Jonathon Jackson scored his first goal of the season on a pass from junior defender Patrick Rundio to help JU put the match out of reach.

The Bisons initially had a 1-0 lead in the seven minute of the first half after freshman forward Garret Pettis scored his A-Sun leading 11th goal of the season in the top right of the net.

JU junior goalie Joey Sanchez needed only to make two stops to earn his 10th win between the posts, while freshman goalie Patrick Walsh recorded six saves in the loss for Lipscomb.

The Dolphins will train for the next week and a half before heading to the A-Sun Tournament in Buies Creek, N.C.
