Men’s soccer places seven players on Atlantic Sun All-Conference teams
Good teams get recognized for their success on the field and the JU men’s soccer team has seven players voted to the Atlantic Sun all-conference teams on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior forward Ramak Niakan Safi and junior defender Stefan Runeman were each named first team all-conference to lead the Dolphin (10-8, 7-2) honors.

The Dolphins defense was well represented as junior goalie Joey Sanchez along with defenders Philipp Meyner, Eddie Munnelly and Nurdin Hrustic each earned second team all-conference honors.

Sophomore forward Tony Taylor also earned second team-conference accolades, while Hrustic and freshman midfielder Kristian Lassen took home all-freshman honors to round out the JU awards

The players honored are the most JU has sent to the all-conference team since joining the A-Sun in 1997.

“I’m happy for all of our guys who made the all-conference team,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “This was a team effort all the way around this season, which has helped some of these guys have a career year. It’s nice to see our teams’ hard work get rewarded because they deserve it.”

Niakan Safi earned first team all-conference honors after producing a career-best seven goals to lead the Dolphins’ offense. He has scored a goal in four of the last five JU wins, including two scores in the 3-1 win over Lipscomb on Nov. 2.

Despite being injured for majority of the season, Taylor is tied for second on the team with four goals in only nine matches. He scored a pair of goals in wins over Gardner-Webb (9/5) and Stetson (10/17) , while Lassen scored a goal in JU’s 3-2 win against USC Upstate (Oct. 3).

Runeman, Meyner, Hrustic and Munnelly have been a solid wall in front of Sanchez this season after helping the Dolphins to six shutout wins.

Runman is also tied for second on the squad in goals, while Meyner has a team-high five assist to go along with their defensive efforts.

Like Niakan Safi, Sanchez is having banner year as well by producing a current JU single-season best 0.92 goals against average and six shutouts between the posts. He also posted nine saves, a shutout and a 0.50 goals against average to lead the Dolphins to road wins over Stetson (Oct. 17) and Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 19) to earn A-Sun Defensive “Player of the Week” honors on Oct. 20

The No. 2 seeded Dolphins will kick off the A-Sun Tournament on Thursday in Buies Creek, N.C. at 4 p.m. against the first round winner of the No. 3 Lipscomb/No. 6 Mercer matchup.
