Women’s and men’s cross country preps for JU-UNF Relay on Saturday
For the first time in a long time, the JU women’s and men’s cross country teams will host its second consecutive home meet on Saturday with the JU-UNF Relay on Thompson Track at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The women’s side will kick things off at 8 a.m., while the men will lace up their shoes thirty minutes later. The format for the meet consists of two-person teams alternating mile run legs to total four miles per team and two miles per competitor.

“This is a fun early season meet with a different format than most regular competitions,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “It will give us a chance to run a little faster than we have been in training and will give us some evidence of our current level of preparedness.”

On Aug. 29, the Dolphins’ women battled through 90-degree temperatures and muddy course conditions to win the JU short course duals on the campus golf course. Junior Elsabeth Goshu (12:48) and sophomore Susanne Klungveit (12:53) took the top two spots in the overall meet to represent the Dolphins.

On the men’s side, sophomore Dylan Kosten was the top finisher with a time of 21:29 to place 15th, while senior Clay Garrett placed 18th (22:29).

The Dolphin women also have some bragging rights heading into the relay this week as JU was picked third in the Atlantic Sun Conference polls ahead of cross-town rival UNF, who was selected fourth.
