Women’s cross country moves to second in Atlantic Sun Conference Polls
The JU women’s cross country team’s successful 2008 season is beginning to be noticed as the Dolphins were voted second in the Atlantic Sun Conference Coaches’ poll on Friday.

The Dolphins had 103 points along with Kennesaw State for the second spot behind Belmont who took first place with 117 points. JU also received three first place votes to go along with its newest ranking.

"We are running well right now given where we are in our training cycle,” JU head coach Ron Grigg. “But it is still early, and some of the A-Sun's best cross country runners have yet to race. It is nice to see other conference coaches recognizing our results, but we are still a month away from the only result that really matters and that is at the A-Sun Championship meet."

The Dolphins earned the second place ranking after winning the Mercer RunFit Invitational in Macon, Ga. on Sept. 27. The Dolphins earned their third overall victory in four meets with 52 points and held off conference rival Kennesaw State (95) on the site of the A-Sun Championship, which will be run in November.

Sophomore Susanne Klungtveit (18:37-4th), junior Elsabeth Goshu (18:38-5th) and junior Alyssa Deal (18:49-6th) each finished in the top 10 to pace the Dolphins. Junior Alison Ritter finished just outside of the top 10 in 11th place with a time of 19:08.

A week earlier, Goshu ran the 10th fastest time in school history to help the Dolphins secure a fourth place finish at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Sept. 20.

Goshu ran a time of 18:33.60 to finish 12th, which earned her the A-Sun “Runner of the Week” honors on Sept. 24.

The Dolphins will run again on Friday, Oct. 17, as they travel to compete in the Sodexho Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla.
