JU men’s tennis comes away from weekend with losses to Campbell and USC Upstate
The JU men’s tennis team looked to steal a couple games from two of the A-Sun leaders but fell twice over the weekend to Campbell, 5-2, and USC Upstate, 6-1.

The Dolphins (8-8, 4-4 A-Sun) were unable to take the doubles point from either side and found their attempts to get back in each match fall short.

“It was going to be tough this weekend,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “These are two strong teams and we knew we would have to fight but unfortunately we couldn’t keep up.”

Against Campbell, the Dolphins found victories in their Nos. 2 and 3 matches. Jose Fantova fought to a three-set victory (6-3, 5-7, 10-3) while Hector Garcia also took a three-setter, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

USC Upstate proved to be too much for the JU side as Victor Vaz ended the day as the only Dolphin to record a win, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

The Dolphins will play a midweek match against Niagara in Orlando, Fla. on Wednesday before heading to ETSU over the weekend.
