Aug. 23, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After falling to Florida State twice last season, including in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, JU women's soccer team get a big test as they open the 2007 season with an exhibition against the Seminoles at The Ashley Sports Complex on Friday at 1 p.m.

The Dolphins return 15 players from head coach Chris Kouns' championship squad, including the inaugural conference preseason MVP, junior forward Keri Zwikker.

Zwikker is a two-time first team all-conference selection and was named "Freshman of the Year" by the conference in 2005. In two seasons with the Dolphins, she has tallied 24 goals and racked up 61 points in 43 career games.

Joining Zwikker on the coaches' preseason all-conference team is junior defender Katie Orr, who earned second team all-conference honors last season after starting 22 games as a sophomore.

New to Coach Kouns' staff will be Amanda Schneider, a four year letterwinner at Georgia State University and last year's star goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek, who joins as a student assistant.

Florida State comes in having advanced to the College Cup in back-to-back seasons for the first time in the program's history. Fourteen letterwinners return to head coach Mark Krikorian's squad, headlined by SoccerBuzz preseason All-American defender Katrin Schmidt.

JU will open the 2007 regular season with Presbyterian College at home on Friday, Aug. 31.
