Women's soccer falls to Mercer 1-0
Oct. 5, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's soccer team fell to Mercer, 1-0 ,in Friday night's Atlantic Sun matchup at the Ashley Sports Complex.
Mercer senior defender Shelley Wegrzyn scored the only goal in the 60th minute after she was put through on goal by freshman forward Lauren Johnson and was able to chip the ball over the advancing Dolphins' goalkeeper, freshman Lorna Brownlie.
"The result was deserved for Mercer," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "They came to play, they were well organized and deserved the win."
Freshman midfielder Tamara Cormier had two shots on goal to lead the Dolphins.
The Dolphins, last year's A-Sun tournament champions, will look to regroup against last year's regular season A-Sun champions Kennesaw State.
"After such a positive start to the conference schedule last weekend, today was a huge disappointment," Kouns said. "All we can do is hope that we come with more desire on Sunday and move on from here."
The game against the Owls kicks off at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Ashley Sports Complex.
