Oct. 18, 2007
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The JU women's soccer team defeated Campbell, 4-0, on Thursday in Buies Creek, N.C.
Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Fink opened the scoring for the Dolphins in the 5th minute, after putting the goal into the bottom left corner after a pass from freshman midfielder Tamara Cormier split the Camel's defense.
"It was a great opportunity to continue our success on a road," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "It is a great compliment to our girls to stay focus and have success away from home. Todd and his team battled the entire time and didn't make anything easy, but we were on this evening."
Freshman defender Devon Dowell scored her first collegiate goal after rising above the defenders to head in a cross from Fink.
Freshman midfielder Jelena Vrcelj made it 3-0 Dolphins with her 19th minute blast that gave Camel's goalkeeper Anna Ditomassio no chance.
Junior forward Keri Zwikker wrapped up the scoring in the 23rd minute with her 14th goal of the season off Cormier's second assist of the game. She is now tied for third in JU history with 38 goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Stott made five saves in her first collegiate shutout.
"It was a great opportunity to get everybody in and that was important for us," Kouns said. "We are going to need everyone for the conference tournament and these minutes will help prepare them for that. I was really excited with the freshman. Besides Keri's goal, they were responsible for every goal and assist tonight. I am happy for Reba earning her second win and her first shutout."
The Dolphins will be in action again on Saturday, taking on Gardner-Webb at 2:00 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C.
