Oct. 25, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's soccer team concludes its home schedule this weekend with Atlantic Sun matches against Belmont on Friday at 7 p.m. and Lipscomb at 2 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The Dolphins currently occupy the sixth and final qualifying spot for the A-Sun tournament and are tied with Belmont, Stetson and Gardner-Webb with 12 points. However, each of those teams hold a tie-breaker advantage over the Dolphins. JU is only two points ahead of seventh place East Tennessee State, though the Dolphins hold the tiebreaker over the Bucs with a 3-2, victory on September 30.

"We are looking forward to the games this weekend and the opportunity to get two more conference results," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "Belmont and Lipscomb are both well coached teams and each one is going to push us to improve and hopefully excel. I hope that the girls will rise to the challenge that is before them this weekend and if they are able to do so then each game will be another step towards a return to the A-Sun Tournament."

Belmont (10-5-1, 4-4 A-Sun) is currently third in the standings and is led by senior goalkeeper Micaela Crowley, who has kept four shutouts this season and has been named A-Sun Defensive "Player of the Week" twice. Freshman forward Erica Carter has five goals and three assists while senior forward Kari Lennon is among the conference leaders with five assists and has also tallied two goals for head coach Lisa Howe's squad.

Lipscomb (3-12-1, 1-6-1 A-Sun) has managed six goals this season, two of which coming from freshman forward Halie Proffitt. Junior goalkeeper Katie Shelton has been strong in the net for head coach Jon Ireland's squad, keeping four shutouts so far this season.

The Dolphins' final 2007 regular season match is against cross-town rival UNF on Oct. 31, and will count towards the River City Rumble.
