Women's soccer ties Belmont 0-0, in double overtime
Oct. 26, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU women's soccer tied Belmont 0-0, Friday night in double overtime at the Ashley Sports Complex.
Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Fink dominated the middle of the park and recorded a career high 10 shots, but neither her nor any other Dolphin could find their way past Belmont goalkeeper Micaela Crowley, despite outshooting the Bruins 20-10.
"I was pleased with the effort that the girls showed this evening," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "It is unfortunate that we were not able to garner all three points this evening. Anytime you take 20 shots with 6 on target and the other team only takes 10 shots with 3 on target you hope the law of averages will fall in your favor and you will end up with the win. But, give Belmont credit, they played a very direct counter-attack style and that took its toll on us and did not let us get forward in the numbers we would have liked tonight."
Dolphins freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Stott recorded her second career shutout after recording three saves and blanking the Bruins for 110 minutes.
"Hopefully we will be able to bring the same effort on Sunday," Kouns said. " Lipscomb is a much improved squad, and this time we need to break through for the 3 points and the victory, which is very much needed right now in our battle to secure a spot in the conference tournament."
The Dolphins will be in action again on Sunday, taking on Lipscomb at 2 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.
