Women's soccer defeats Savannah College of Art and Design, 3-0
Feb. 2, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Brian Copham era as JU women's soccer head coach got underway with the best possible start, with the Dolphins claiming a 3-0, victory over Savannah College of Art and Design in their 2008 spring opener.
Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Fink scored two goals for the Dolphins in the uniquely formatted game that consisted of three periods of 30 minutes apiece.
"It was my first time seeing them play an 11-a-side game," said Copham. "We were a little rusty, but I was happy with the girl's effort. We have some things to work on, but for the first game of the spring, only two practices in, it was not a bad performance at all. Andy has a well coached team and it was good for both of us to be able to get in a game this early in the spring.'
Sophomore defender Devon Dowell was the provider for Fink's first goal, as the Dolphins opened the scoring in the second period.
With the Dolphins piling on the pressure in the third period, Fink, a 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference all-freshman selection, doubled the Dolphins' lead with an assist from senior midfielder Heidi Dettmer.
