Women’s golf opens 2009-10 season on Monday
The JU women’s golf team will have a new look when its tees off on Monday for the first round of the Eagles Golf Invitational.
There will be four new faces in the lineup as JU opens its 2009-10 season at Miromar Lakes Golf & Beach Club.
“We’re excited to get the season started with everyone getting some tournament experience right from the start,” said JU assistant coach Pamela Shelley. “We’ve got a very talented and deep squad this year, so getting everyone out in the same tournament gives us a chance to see how they play under tournament pressure.”
The team lineup will consist of two veterans and three newcomers. Senior Paige Gifford and sophomore Morgan Jackson headline the team lineup, joined by new juniors Meghan Hughes and Kristen Boettcher as well as freshman Francesca Yong.
Juniors Jessica Williams and Melissa Magdor and sophomore Alison Cornell will tee it up as individuals this week.
“We’ve had some good rounds in qualifying and great competition for the five spots on the team,” Shelley said. “The depth we have this year is pushing everyone to get better.”
The Dolphins will be going up against in-state rivals Florida Atlantic, Bethune-Cookman and tournament host Florida Gulf Coast. Last year, JU finished in a tie for fifth with Florida Gulf Coast at the A-Sun Championship.
