Women’s golf in second at Eagles Golf Invitational
Kristen Boettcher shot rounds of 76 and 74 to lead the JU women’s golf team into contention after the first day of the Eagles Golf Invitational.

The Dolphins shot 315 in the morning round and 312 in the afternoon session, trailing host Florida Gulf Coast by two entering the final round.

“We had some good scores today and we’re in contention for the team title going into the final round,” said JU assistant coach Pamela Shelley. “We know we’ve got some work to do tomorrow to reach our goal of winning the event.”

Boettcher was joined by teammate Meghan Hughes with a four-over par 76 in the opening 18, with Melissa Magdor and Francesca Yong shooting five-over par 77. Morgan Jackson and Jessica Williams each had an 86 while Paige Gifford shot an 87. Alison Cornell rounded out the group with a 91.

In the afternoon session, Boettcher posted the low round with a two-over par 74. Magdor had the low round of the afternoon with a 77 while Hughes and Yong each had 78s. Jackson shot 82 while Williams had an 87 and Cornell carded a 95. Gifford was disqualified in the second round after playing a wrong ball.

The Dolphins will wrap up their season opening event with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
