Women’s golf familiar with LPGA International for Xavier Invitational
The JU women’s golf team will be facing a familiar foe when they tee it up for the first round of the Xavier Invitational on Friday.

For Melissa Magdor, Kristen Boettcher and Meghan Hughes, it will be a homecoming of sorts as they starred at Daytona State – which played its home events at LPGA International, which will host the event.

The trio was a part of Daytona State’s run to a second place finish last season at the national junior college championships, held on the same course.

“I think everyone is excited to be playing again and looking to build off of our strong finish in the season opener,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We had a good practice round and with the experience we have on this course, I think we are very confident going into the tournament.”

Joining the trio of juniors will be senior Paige Gifford and freshman Francesca Yong. Gifford is coming with a little momentum, having posted a seven-over par 79 in the final round of the season opening Lady Eagle Invitational.

Yong was impressive in her collegiate debut, tying for fifth place at 20-over par. She opened the event with a 77 and followed with a 78 in the second round.

Magdor and Boettcher are also looking to build off of solid starts to their season. Boettcher finished second in the season opener at 12-over par, with her highest round being a 78. Magdor tied for third at 17-over par, going 77, 77 and 79.

The three-day event begins Friday morning and will conclude with the final round Sunday morning.
