Women’s golf takes 11th at the Xavier Invitational
Paige Gifford carded a career-best tying even-par round of 72 as the JU women’s golf team finished 11th at the Xavier Invitational at LPGA International.
The Dolphins shot 315 as a team in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 936 – just three shots out of eighth. Daytona State won the 15-team event by shooting a 298 in the final round to finish at 881, 17-over par.
Amy West of Daytona State won the individual competition at three-under par after shooting a two-under par 70 in the final round.
Gifford’s final round was the best by a Dolphin this season and is tied for the second best round by a Dolphin since 1993.
“There a lot of things we can take out of this event,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “I think everyone feels like they could have played a little better, but we played some really good competition and I think we’re going to be all the better for it as the season develops.”
Gifford tied for 22nd at 12-over par for the event with teammate Meghan Hughes, who carded her third straight four-over par 76.
Kristen Boettcher shot a 10-over par 82 to count towards the team score, tying for 66th at 29-over par for the event. Francesca Yong shot an 85 to tie teammate Melissa Magdor, who shot a 86, for 59th at 27-over par.
The Dolphins are off until they participate in the Troy Invitational on Oct. 25.
