Women’s golf in seventh after two rounds at the Troy Invitational
The JU women’s golf team posted rounds of 313 and 320 to sit in seventh place after 36 holes at the Troy Invitational.

Meghan Hughes leads the Dolphins individually, posting rounds of 78 and 75 to sit in a tie for ninth at nine-over par, 153.

Louisiana-Monroe leads the 10-team event at 607, 31-over par, holding a two-shot lead over host Troy. Troy’s Haley Lawrence leads the individual competition at one-over par, 145, after rounds of 71 and 74.

“We really struggled in the second round today,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “This is a great golf course and we had some opportunities to score well, but we didn’t take advantage.”

Hughes was solid in his first round, with a few hiccups, putting up four bogeys and one double to shoot 78. She improved in second round, with five bogeys and a birdie to shoot a team-best 3-over par, 75.

Francesca Yong is tied for 23rd at 15-over par after rounds of 76 and 83. Her 76 featured two birdies, but the 83 had just one birdie – a two on the par-3 12th.

Morgan Jackson tied for 33rd at 19-over par, shooting rounds of 80 and 83. Paige Gifford shot a 79 in the morning, but posted an 85 in the afternoon to tie for 35th at 20-over par.

Jessica Williams shot an 87 in the morning, but bounced back with the second-best round for the Dolphins in the afternoon with a 79.

The Dolphins will look to move up the leaderboard on Tuesday in the final round at 8 a.m.
