Women’s lacrosse to host Oregon this weekend
The JU women’s lacrosse team will look for its first win in program history this Saturday when they host Oregon at 11 a.m. at D.B. Milne Field.
The Dolphins fell in their program opener to UMBC last Saturday, 18-2, in front of 1,043 fans.
“We’re really excited to face a top program like Oregon and to have the opportunity to get another game under our belt,” said JU head coach Mindy McCord. “We’ve been working hard all week on being more competitive and it’s going to be great to see how we react.”
Freshman Cassie Campassano opened the JU scoring account against the Retrievers in the first half, netting a strong goal in traffic while Carly Garrison added the second goal late in the game.
The Oregon lacrosse team was selected to finish second in the preseason Mountain Pacific Sports Federation coaches poll. The Ducks finished tied for second in conference play last season with a record of 4-2 (12-5 overall), along with Cal and Denver.
The Ducks return seven of their top-10 scorers from last season, including leading point-getting Jana Drummond (42 points on 34 goals and eight assists) and Alex Breiner who had 40 points last season on 24 goals and 16 assists.
The Dolphins will draw the Ducks at 11 a.m. with the men’s team facing Bellarmine at 2 p.m.
