LIVE: Watch women’s lacrosse battle Florida at 6 p.m on Sun Sports
The JU women’s lacrosse team heads south to face its new in-state rival, Florida, for the first time this Saturday at 6 p.m. in Gainesville on Sun Sports.
The Dolphins (0-2) are looking to secure their first program win against the Gators who will be competing in the program’s first game.
“We’ve already faced this team once in the fall so we know what to expect,” said JU head coach Mindy McCord. “We saw a lot of improvement between the first and second game and we’re hoping to do the same on Saturday. It’s going to be a great day for lacrosse in Florida.”
Last week, the Dolphins fell to second-year program Oregon, 22-6. JU tripled its offensive output from the program opener against UMBC, with five Dolphins scoring in the contest.
Freshman Abigail Warnken led the Dolphins with two goals and freshman Brie Kitchelt added a goal and an assist to the effort. Six Dolphins have now recorded points on the year.
The Dolphins will play their next two games on the road before heading home for a five-game home stand that will include Florida head coach Amanda O’Leary’s alma mater, Temple.
The draw for Saturday is set for 6:15 p.m. and will be televised on Sun Sports.
