Women's lacrosse heads to Charlotte this weekend with championship implications
The JU women’s lacrosse team will be looking to come away from its two-game weekend against Davidson and Longwood with the National Lacrosse Conference regular-season crown in hand.

The Dolphins (5-6, 3-0 NLC) will face Davidson (5-7, 3-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. before playing Longwood (4-6, 3-0) in a potential regular season championship game at 11 a.m on Sunday. Two wins for JU this weekend will mean the Dolphins are NLC regular season champions in their inaugural season.

“We’re really excited for this weekend,” said JU head coach Mindy McCord. “We’ve had these dates circled all season and we just need to come out playing like we’ve done throughout the conference schedule.”

JU won its last conference match against Howard, 20-5, nearly two weeks ago. The Dolphins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before rattling off six unanswered goals to take control of the game early on a windy day in Jacksonville.

Freshmen Cassie Campasano and Jocelyn Jamison led JU’s offense with four goals and one assist apiece while sophomore Jessica Hotckiss added three points (1,2) to the effort. Goalie’s Karli Tobin and Hannah Collins each played thirty minutes, making four and six saves respectively.

Davidson is currently sitting in third place in the NLC and will host Jacksonville on Saturday in Richardson Stadium. The Wildcats' three league wins have come against Howard, Presbyterian and Detroit, with their lone setback being a defeat to Longwood last month.

Longwood is tied with JU atop the NLC standings and fell to Louisville, 17-10, on Sunday afternoon in Farmville, Va. Carlie Nethken led Longwood with two goals and one assist. The Lancers will face Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C. on Saturday before heading the 90 miles north to Charlotte to face JU on Sunday.
