After having their recruiting classes ranked in the top 40 in 2006 & 2007, the Dolphin baseball team’s 2009 recruiting class received honorable mention honors for the second straight year in the Collegiate Baseball Top 40 poll.

Associate head coach Tim Montez, who spent 14 years as a recruiting coordinator at Fresno State, Arkansas, Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara, has now been involved with 12 recruiting classes that have earned national recognition.

“This recruiting class may be small in numbers, but is huge as far as filling our needs and having an immediate impact,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “We brought in some speed, power and added some finesse on the mound. Coach Montez did another solid job out in the Wisconsin, Illinois area, as well as, keeping some of our local products home. I am excited about the direction our program is going. Now with Todd Claus entering his first year as regional recruiter, the future looks really bright.”

Among the recruits mentioned for the Dolphins are local products Jimmy Appleby (IF, Trinity Christian) and Chris Patrick (RHP, Terry Parker) along with C/RHP Matthew Gaine (Goshen, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep), OF Daniel Gulbransen (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), LHP Sean Kennedy (Gurnee, Ill./Warren), C Cole Rhoden (Starke, Fla./FCCJ) and IF Adam Brett Walker (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran).
