In a series of vast importance in their quest to solidify an A-Sun Tournament bid, the Dolphins got things off on the wrong foot as the JU baseball team fell to Kennesaw State, 8-6, Friday evening at Sessions Stadium.

JU (21-20, 10-8) committed only two errors in the contest but both led to five unearned runs in the contest.

KSU (17-28, 8-10) plated an extra three runs in the first off of one error to build a 4-0 lead.

The Dolphins would battle back to tie the contest, 4-4, with two runs in the second and two in the fourth but another error in the seventh fueled two more runs as the Owls took the lead for good.

“We have stressed all week about how important this series is for us,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “Tonight we kept getting in our own way and it cost us. We need to take control of our own fate and take care of business tomorrow.”

Junior Chris Kaminski (3-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs (only one of them earned) on nine hits with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings.

Ryan Rodebaugh (4-5) earned the win after allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Junior catcher Alex Swenson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Dolphins. Freshman center fielder Dan Gulbransen finished 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to raise his season average to .401.

Clint Roques led the Owls by going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Tyler Stubblefield and Drew Folkes each went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

The Dolphins and Owls will complete their series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest can be followed on ASun.TV and live stats by logging onto
