Men’s lacrosse battles Bellarmine this Saturday
The JU men’s lacrosse team impressed the nation in its program debut against No. 4 North Carolina and will look for its first win when Bellarmine comes to town at 2 p.m. on Saturday at D.B. Milne Field.

The Dolphins fought the Tarheels into the fourth quarter but were unable to keep the national powerhouse at bay, falling 11-5 in front of a huge crowd of 4,762.

“I was really happy with our performance last weekend,” said JU head coach Matt Kerwick. “This game will be another good test for our young team and I hope we can come out as hungry as we did against North Carolina.”

Senior goalie Brad Hester turned in a spectacular performance against the Tarheels, recording 17 saves and three ground balls, while freshman Ryan Serville led the team with two goals and one assist.

In its season opener, Bellarmine knocked off Detroit-Mercy, 12-8.

The Knights dominated the second quarter against the Titans, scoring five times while holding their opponent to just a goal. Austin Bright and Shane Andersen led the team in scoring with three goals apiece while goalie Scott Bowles recorded the win between the pipes with two saves.

The Knights and Dolphins will face-off at 2 p.m. shortly after the JU women’s lacrosse game against Oregon at 11 a.m.
